Romaine lettuce has dominated the headlines this year after an E-coli outbreak made more than 200 people sick in early April. This was thought to have been under control by June this year, but in November another E. coli outbreak, which was also traced back to romaine lettuce, sickened more than 70 people. The CDC is currently advising US consumers not to eat romaine lettuce if they do not know where it is from.
In October, Arizona meat producer JBS Tolleson recalled 6.9 million pounds of raw beef products that were linked to a salmonella outbreak.
Earlier in December, a further 5.2 million pounds of beef were recalled as food-poisoning concerns continued.
Business Insider's Kate Taylor reported at the time that 246 people reported falling sick across 26 states in the US because of this outbreak. 59 of these people were hospitalized.
