More than a dozen rockets struck a base in Iraq housing US and coalition forces, and there are reports of American casualties. Two US troops were reportedly killed in the attack, and as many as 10 others were injured, the Associated Press reported.

Camp Taji was struck by 15 Katyusha rockets late Wednesday, an Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman revealed on Twitter.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Fox News, citing a US military source, was first to report the casualties, to include the deaths of two Americans and one British citizen, with Reuters and CNN confirming.

Reports of casualties have not been officially confirmed by the Department of Defense.

In the past, Iranian-backed militia groups in Iraq, militia groups like Kata'ib Hezbollah, have fired rockets at bases.

Following a rocket attack in late December that killed a US civilian contractor, the US bombed militia sites, triggering an attack and protest on the US embassy compound in Baghdad. Days later, the US killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, former head of the IRGC Quds Force, in a drone strike, a dramatic escalation that brought the countries to the brink of war.

In retaliation for Soleimani's death, Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles at US and coalition forces in Iraq in an attack that saw more than 100 US troops diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries.
