David Beckham sent a message to his former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who had emergency surgery on Saturday for a brain haemorrhage.

"Keep fighting Boss..." Beckham posted to his Instagram account, along with a picture of himself as a young player.

Beckham played for Manchester United from 1992-2003.

Manchester United's official Twitter account said that the surgery "had gone very well." However, it added that Ferguson remains in intensive care.

Ferguson retired as the manager of Manchester United in May 2013, after winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles.

The 76-year-old is regarded as Britain's most successful football manager, according to the BBC.
