Japanese auto major Nissan finally launched the much-awaited Datsun Redi-GO in India today. The Redi-GO is the third offering from Datsun to make its global debut in India after the GO hatchback and GO+ sub-compact MPV.
Set to go up against the likes of Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, all of which are priced between Rs. 2.5-Rs. 4.5 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), Datsun has promised this hatchback will be priced aggressively.
The Redi GO is built on the same CMF-A platform that the Renault Kwid uses. The Datsun-Nissan alliance helps the former develop its architecture at Nissan’s Chennai facility. The Redi-GO and Kwid will share the 799cc 3-cylinder Petrol engine that the two companies jointly built.
This small powerhouse produces 53 BHP of power and 72Nm of torque. However, the new Datsun small car is expected to cost lesser than the Kwid.
While Datsun will start off with the small 799cc petrol engine initially, the company might introduce a diesel option soon.
