Over the past several days, Trump has repeatedly dismissed Khizr Khan, who forcefully denounced Trump at the Democratic National Convention last week, citing Trump's controversial comments about veterans and his plan to bar Muslims from entering the US. The Republican presidential nominee said Khan didn't "have the right" to suggest Trump didn't understand the US Constitution. He also insinuated that Khan's wife Ghazala, who stood silently behind her husband during his address, was not permitted to speak.
During "Last Week Tonight" on Sunday, the HBO host railed against Trump for singling out the Khan family.
"The main takeway from these two weeks is that incredibly, we may be on the brink of electing such a damaged, sociopathic narcissist that the simple presidential duty of comforting the families of fallen soldiers may actually be beyond his capabilities," Oliver said. "And I genuinely didn't think that was part of the job that someone could be bad at."
