Daily call failures between Reliance Jio and Airtel improves, Vodafone still remains a hiccup

The daily call drop issue between Reliance Jio and other incumbent telecom companies has improved considerably after additional Points of Interconnect (POIs) were allotted.

The call drop issue between Reliance Jio and Airtel improved, however, call failure still remains a hiccup with Vodafone.

As per reports, daily call drops between Reliance Jio and Airtel is down to 56% when compared to 73% last month in September. ET reported Jio’s call drop with Idea was at 62% against 75% and the percentage was highest with Vodafone India at 75%, a tad lower from 83.5% recorded earlier.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio was at loggerheads with India’s top three telecom companies over POIs. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has set October 17 as the deadline for incumbent mobile phone companies to comply with the quality of standards norms.

Reliance Jio had complained to TRAI over the POIs issue, accusing the telecom companies of violating quality of service norms by not providing adequate PoIs.

"The situation is improving but a lot more needs to be done. Trai is watching the situation very closely,” a senior official told ET.
Meanwhile, as per various reports, Bharti Airtel has provisioned nearly 4,000 E1 POIs to Jio.

A Vodafone India spokesman told ET the company had beefed up (interconnect) capacity by increasing the number of PoIs to Jio by as much as three times in the last few days, but said "the issues it has consistently raised need to be duly considered and resolved at the earliest." He didn't specify the issues at hand.

In September, Idea had provided around 2100 PoIs to Jio.
