  • Conor McGregor is a "coked up little leprechaun," according to UFC welterweight Colby Covington.
  • The Californian wrestler recalled McGregor's arrest last month and implied that he turned himself into police to avoid coming face-to-face with Covington himself.
  • It is unclear if Covington's controversial comments are designed to entice McGregor into a UFC fight, but the 30-year-old has a history of making outlandish statements.

Conor McGregor has been called a "coked up little leprechaun" by one of UFC's most controversial fighters.

Welterweight competitor Colby Covington has a history of making outlandish statements, and now he has commented on the alleged bus attack that led to McGregor's arrest in New York City last month.

McGregor was recorded on video throwing guard rails at a bus carrying UFC fighters and smashing a window in an attack that left two athletes requiring hospital treatment. He is due to appear in New York for a court hearing on June 14.

Recalling the incident on Fightful, Covington said: "I was actually getting on a plane to New York as it happened - he's a coked up little leprechaun."

He then implied that McGregor had turned himself in to the 78th precinct in Brooklyn in order to avoid coming face-to-face with Covington himself.

"It's funny how I put a tweet that King Colby the bounty hunter was coming after him, he turned himself in. He knows what would happen. I would dunk that nerd underwater and make him quit."

Covington, ranked third in UFC's 170-pound division, is no stranger to inflammatory comments. In the past, he angered Brazilians when he fought in Sao Paulo and called the city "a dump" filled with "filthy animals."

As Covington competes as a welterweight, it is unlikely he would entice McGregor into a cage fight as the Irishman campaigns in the division below, as a lightweight.

It is also a bout UFC president Dana White would not consider any time soon as he has his eye on a fight between McGregor and Russian wrestler Khabib Nurmagomedov. Just last month White said the match-up would be "massive."
