Taking a U-turn, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had earlier filed a closure report in the coalgate scandal involving industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and former coal secretary PC Parakh, has now told a special court that it has enough evidence against the accused. The CBI also placed on record all the necessary documents pertaining to the case. The Supreme Court appointed-special public prosecutor (SPP) RS Cheema submitted before special CBI Judge Bharat Parashar that there is "evidence against the accused to show their involvement."
"SPP states that under the facts and circumstances of the case, prima facie there is enough material to take cognizance of the offences against private parties and some of the government officials involved in the process of coal blocks allocation. Put up for consideration on the closure report on November 25," the judge said.
The court has fixed 25 November as the next date of hearing in the case.
