Cisco allocated $40 million more to accelerate digitization of India today. This is in continuation to the company’s $100 mn investment plan.

With the government's Make in India and Startup India initiatives,Cisco will also set up its first manufacturing hub in Pune for high end technology. It will bring 93 suppliers in the next 2 weeks to India to start the process.

“This is just the start to make India not only a manufacturing hub for the country but for the whole world,” said John Chambers, the executive chairman of Cisco.

Cisco is investing funds for early and growth stage companies and to train 250,000 students by 2020.

It will also collaborate with the state government to set up 6 innovation labs and 3 centres of expertise to counsel entrepreneurs and fuel startups in India.

"Our aim is not just Smart cities, it is Smart states," said John.

He also added that broadband infrastructure is a challenge in the country while stating the fact that true digitization will be complete when every household will have 10-15 Mega Bytes of broadband.
