  • One should have an excellent command over English or French.
  • One should be enrolled in Master’s or PhD programme or in the last year of Bachelor’s programme or within one year of graduation from Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD programme.

These are some of the remote internship opportunities available in the United Nations:

1. Economic Affairs
The selected candidate will have to assist the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) in drafting, preparing and reviewing papers related to the policy analysis.
Duration — 2 months and can be extended.

2. Political Affairs
The candidate will be required to closely work with the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), which works for the welfare and strengthening of international human rights.
Duration — 3-6 months
Key responsibilities — The intern shall assist the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to fulfill its mission.

3. Environment Affairs
The United Nations Environment Programme — the leading global environment authority sets the global agenda and sets the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development.
Duration — 6 months
Key responsibilities — The selected candidate will have to engage with the Caribbean Biological Corridor (CBC) team to coordinate meetings, and analyse the technical documents. Candidates who want to be a part of this opportunity can apply here.

4. Programme Management
The intern will closely work with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDDR), which looks after the progress of implementation of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Duration — 2-6 months
Key responsibilities — The day to day task will be to assist in drafting, preparing documents, reports etc. and attend, summarise conferences and meetings.

5. Public Information
The selected intern will also have to work with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDDR) to promote disaster reduction activities.
Duration — 2-6 months
Key responsibilities — The candidate will have to format the content, draft abstracts and summaries and research, create a resources guide on specific topics.

6. Administration and Human Resources
The selected intern will have to report to the Senior Human Resources Officer and Human Resources Officers.
Duration — 6 months
Key responsibilities — The day to day responsibilities will be to review intern recruitment requests, provide information and guidance to offices and candidates and assist the onboarding interns.

7. Rule of law
This internship is with the UN Team of Experts (TOE) on the rule of law and sexual violence in conflict.
Duration — 3-6 months
Key responsibilities — To support and monitor new developments in countries of interest to TOE and assist in organising conferences, events and meetings.

8. Statistics
Interns will typically report to the chief of a section or a statistician. The position is open in various departments within the Statistics Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
Duration — 2 months, but can be extended
Key responsibilities — The day to day task will be to assist the team in designing, organising, planning and managing the collection of statistical data and also perform methodological research.

9.Data Research
This position is allocated to the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM), Department of Operational Support (DOS) which provides operational advisory services to operating entities across the secretariat including other departments.
Duration — 3 months
Key responsibilities — Gather and analyse data from various databases and sources, perform statistical and mathematical programming and develop reports and visual representations.

The intern will work closely with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
Duration — 6 months
