Indian companies are snapping up graduates from premier B-schools like Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian School of Business (ISB), Xaviers Institute of Management (XLRI) with higher salaries.
This year, some of the most promising job offers came from consulting, banking and finance sectors. The salaries are much above the average packages offered across the country.

Indian companies are snapping up graduates from premier B-schools like Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian School of Business (ISB), Xaviers Institute of Management (XLRI) with higher salaries.
This year, some of the most promising job offers came from consulting, banking and finance sectors. The salaries too, remained above the average packages offered in the country.
Here are the top B-schools and the jobs and salaries they were offered.
This year, IIM Calcutta has recorded its highest ever average starting salary at ₹28 lakh per annum. Of the total of 439 students, nearly 43 graduates secured job offers with an annual compensation of ₹54.5 lakh. Almost 25% of the batch received job offers with salaries of ₹41.8 lakh per annum.
ISB, Hyderabad — average salary at ₹26 lakh
Indian School of Business, which ranks in the top 100 global colleges for MBA, secured over 1,300 offers on the very first day with an average salary of ₹26 lakh per annum. As expected, consulting firms such as McKinsey & Company, KPMG and Deloitte led the placements for ISB this year — accounting for over 22% of the job offers. While 25% offers were made in the e-commerce and finance space.
Companies like Reliance Industries, Aditya Birla Group, Piramal Enterprises hired for leadership roles right from the campus.
Xavier School of Management - average salary at ₹24 lakh
The B-school attracted most promising job packages from the consulting (26%), sales and marketing (21%) and BFSI (banking and financial services) at 17%. Banking and financial services turned out to be the highest paymaster — offering domestic salaries as high as ₹50 lakh. The highest international offer stood at ₹58 Lakh from the sales & marketing domain.
Global multinationals KPMG and PwC topped the charts, rolling out the most number of offers. While Myntra, Power Finance Corporation, Delhivery, JCB and Diageo emerged as the first time recruiters at XLRI.
IIM Lucknow — average salary ₹24 lakh
The average salary that was offered at IM Lucknow was ₹24 lakh as 140 companies visited it for recruitment. The highest salary bagged on international offers at IIM Lucknow was ₹58 lakh while the highest recorded domestic salary was at ₹54 lakh.
International job offers came from the USA, Dubai, Africa, Qatar and Africa.
IIM Kozhikode — average salary at ₹23 lakh (₹27 lakh for top performers)
IIM Kozhikode, on the other hand, placed over 400 students, witnessing a 22% increase in the average salaries as compared to last year. The average salary for the batch was ₹23 lakh — which went up to ₹27 lakh for the top performing students.
“Despite the negative sentiment of the job market, green energy, and e-commerce sectors along with emerging startups — including education technology startups — have hired this year along with the other traditional firms. IIMK has seen a 200% surge in offers from start-ups along with more than 150% increase in the roles from e-commerce firms securing 12.5% of the total offers from these sectors,” said professor Shovan Chowdhury, chairperson of placements at IIM Kozhikode.
IIM Bangalore — 500 job offers in 3 days
IIM Bangalore bagged the top position among Indian colleges at 27th spot in the Financial Times Global MBA rankings 2020. The recent recruitment drive at the campus witnessed nearly 6% rise in the job offers — securing over 500 offer letters in the first three days. The university did not reveal the average salaries of the offers.
Consulting firms rolled out the maximum offers at 147. This includes 26 offers from Accenture, 23 from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and 20 from Bain & Company among others.
Information Technology (IT) and other technology roles such as product management also offered 64 job letters. As many as 27 offers were given to graduates for technology consulting roles. The leading recruiters hiring for technical roles include Microsoft, TCS and Sprinklr.
Over 74 offers were made in the e-commerce and finance domain from companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan.
IIM Ahmedabad
Consulting majors McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) rolled out as many as 50 offers at IIM Ahmedabad. This includes the pre-placement offers as well.
Other recruiters included Accenture Strategy, Bain & Co., Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs and Deloitte. This is as per the Cluster1 placements at the IIM-A campus — which was concluded in four cohorts — investment banking and markets, management consulting, advisory consulting and private equity, venture capital and asset management.
