Do you dream of a career in hospitality and think your skills are worthy of royalty?

Queen Elizabeth II is seeking a part-time housekeeper to work in one of her royal palaces.

Applicants to the role of part-time housekeeping assistant, will be expected to work 20 hours a week at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. They will be paid £9.50, equivalent to $12.95, the UK's new national minimum wage.

"This is your opportunity to use your enthusiasm and interest in hospitality to deliver the exceptional," states the job advert, which was posted on The Royal Household's jobs board.

While previous experience is an "advantage" recruiters are more interested in an applicant's "proactive approach" and ability to tackle challenges, it states.

The pandemic has been a challenging time in general for hospitality workers. Many continue to face abusive customers, understaffing and long hours, and are pushing back against employers who insist on offering low pay and poor conditions.

The UK national minimum wage is currently £8.91 for those aged over 23 and working outside London, but will rise to £9.50 from April 2022. That's still below the voluntary £9.90 UK living wage recommended by the Living Wage Foundation, which is calculated in line with the true cost of living.

However, applicants may be sated by a comprehensive package of perks that includes 33 days holiday, a 15% pension contribution and access to a range of catering and recreational facilities. The successful applicant will work four days a week, spread over Monday to Sunday.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse, sometimes referred to as just Holyroodhouse, is the official residence of the Monarch in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital. Queen Elizabeth, who celebrates 70 years on the throne in 2022, splits her time between multiple palaces throughout the year.

During Holyrood Week, which runs from late June to early July, the Queen tours various engagements in Scotland, and hosts engagements at the palace.

To work at the palace, applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and must pass a security vetting process before being able to work for the Royal Family.

The vacancy closes on January 21, with interviews set to take place on January 31, according to the advert.
