Google has introduced three new certificate courses to help the unemployed in the US and Indian information technology (IT) services giant, Infosys, is among the list of companies that has signed on to hire them.

Google has opened up enrollment to three new certification courses to become a data analyst, project manager, and user experience (UX) designer. To put its money where its mouth is, the SIlicon Valley behemoth has signed on more than 130 employers to hire people who graduate with these certificates — one of them being Infosys.

The Indian multinational has promised to onboard 500 graduates with Google Career Certificates over the next two years. According to Ravi Kumar, the president of Infosys, this will help the Indian multinational fulfil its commitment to hire 25,000 workers in the US by 2022.

Along with Infosys, other companies like Deloitte, Walmart, Accenture, and Verizon have also partnered with Google. “We’re also partnering with Guild Education, which works with Fortune 1000 companies, to bring Google Career Certificates to help some of the country’s largest employers upskill their workforce,” said chief executive of Google, Sundar Pichai, in a blog post.

What are Google Career Certificates?
Google Career Certificates are available to all US citizens regardless of previous job experience or education level. The courses can ideally be completed between three to six months, according to the Silicon Valley behemoth.

Each of them costs around $49 per month, which means the total price depends on how quickly one finishes each course. Given Google’s stipulated timeline, the overall fee of getting certified should come in under $3,000. And, the jobs at stake have a payout that is close to twenty times higher.

CourseDescriptionAverage annual wage
Data analystLearn how to use tools and platforms to process, analyse, visualise, and gain insights from data.$66,000
Project managerLearn the foundations of traditional project management and gain insight into agile project management.$93,000
UX designerLearn the foundations of UX design and research, building low-fidelity designs and wireframes, creating high-fidelity prototypes, and testing.$75,000

Kent Walker, the senior vice president of global affairs at Google, asserts that companies hiring graduates from these courses will treat these certificates the same as a four-year degree in a related field.

The certificates are a part of the Grow with Google initiative, which was founded in 2017 to help Americans reskill. According to Google, the programme has helped more than six million US citizens in the last four years.
