Cyber security experts’ salaries grow to ₹8.8 lakh on an average

Over the last three years, there has been a whopping 98% increase in the cybersecurity job postings, according to the job search platform Indeed. Millenials too are keen on jobs in cyberspace like security specialists, IT analysts as the searches for these roles went up by 73% during the same period.

“Against the backdrop of the newly proposed policies for the storage and protection of data by the government in Parliament, companies are working to comply with the framework for data processing and create a more secure environment to guard against data breaches,” said Venkata Machavarapu, head of engineering at Indeed India.
According to LinkedIn Emerging Jobs 2020 report, cybersecurity specialist is one of the most sought-after job roles in India. This may be because there has been a global dearth of cybersecurity professionals.
A report by the staffing firm Xpheno said that there are as many as 67,000 job openings in cybersecurity — including threat management, network security, cloud security roles. In fact, the unfilled cybersecurity jobs are expected to reach 1.8 million by 2022, as per the Center for Cyber Safety and Education.
“There is definitely a shortage of talent. However, we need to ensure that the resources that we have at our disposal receive good training. While there are institutes that are training young talent, there is a need to relook at the curriculum and focus on practical oriented skill development,” said Gulshan Rai, former cyber security advisor to PMO.
