  • The University of Wisconsin-Madison posted a job listing for a "descriptive sensory panelist."
  • The role includes tasting and evaluating different foods such as cheese and pizza.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison recently put out a job advert for a "descriptive sensory panelist" at its Center for Dairy Research — basically, a fancy way of saying "food taster."

The lucky hire will sit on a panel of expert tasters who will be trained on how to describe the appearance, texture, taste, and aroma of various foods for product development and research purposes, according to the listing.

The research center is "looking for individuals passionate about all types of foods, but especially cheese, pizza, and other dairy products."

This could mean tasting up to 24 cheese samples and 12 pizzas a week, as well as other foods, it said.

The role is temporary with the possibility of an extension and will be based on-site at the university's campus in Madison, Wisconsin. Panelists must be available for three-hour consecutive periods and up to three sessions a week. It pays $15 per hour.

The Center for Dairy Research dates back to 1890. It offers science-based research and education about the dairy industry, according to its website.

Insider contacted the University of Wisconsin and the research center for comment but did not immediately hear back.
