Gen Z workers are shaking up the professional world with new ways of finding success and happiness – and they're taking to TikTok to share their learnings.
Young people have experienced major upheavals in the workplace in recent years, ranging from the advent of remote work during the pandemic and waves of layoffs as the economy slowed.
Job cuts became a regular occurrence in 2023, with big firms like Meta, Alphabet, Salesforce, JP Morgan, and Deloitte cutting thousands of roles. Some incoming college graduates had their job offers rescinded and even long-time staffers weren't spared from brutal layoffs.
Meanwhile, dozens of companies reversed their remote working policies and ordered employees back to the office.
Gen Z workers — between the ages of 18 to 25 — are seeing older employees endure economic hardships and reap little reward for their hard work and loyalty to companies.
As a result, some are choosing to take a step back from work and put themselves first by prioritizing life over work.
