Mexican-born Sergio Garcia first arrived in America when he was 17 months old and returned to Mexico as a child. He then came back to the U.S. as a teenager to pick almonds with his father. He has since attended law school but could not get his license because of his immigration status.

The decision to grant him his license in California is the first of its kind and could have an impact on other undocumented immigrants who hope to become lawyers, NBC noted. Other undocumented immigrants have filed similar suits in New York and Florida.

This is a breaking news post. We will update with more information as soon as it's available.
