A Berkeley, Calif. elementary school was forced to change its policies after a student was made to clean the school's bathrooms as punishment for allegedly bullying another student, according to local news reports.

The 11-year-old LeConte Elementary student was threatened with suspension after he was allegedly involved with a bullying incident at the school, CBS reports, but instead chose to clean the school's bathrooms for two weeks. He had been cleaning the bathrooms twice a day for six days before his mother discovered the punishment and ended it, she told ABC.

The student reportedly got whooping cough following his punishment, which his mother attributes to cleaning the bathroom.

"Why is cleaning bathrooms an option? It should never happen," the student's mother, Magdalene Kingori, told CBS. "He was compromised. He was touching pee pee for a week. And now he's sick!"

The student was reportedly made to pick paper off of the bathroom floor.
