Ritesh Agarwal ready to offer OYO rooms as quarantine centres as Coronavirus spreads

• OYO has over 18,000 hotels in India with 270,000 rooms across 500 cities of India.
• India has a total of 115 positive coronavirus cases with 13 cured and two dead.

Ritesh Agarwal, founder of OYO hotels and homes offered OYO rooms to be set up as quarantine centres in India. With the Coronavirus pandemic and stark increase in the number of positive cases in the country, the government is looking to set up more and more quarantine centres.

Ritesh Agarwal replied to a Twitter suggestion to convert OYO rooms into quarantine centres and said he would be open to implementing the same across cities.


As of September 2019, OYO had over 18,000 hotels in India with 270,000 rooms. It is present in over 500 cities of India.

The Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in people working from home, cities being shut down across India with malls, theatres, pubs and more closed until March 31. India has a total of 115 positive cases with 13 cured and two dead.

However, since the number of suspects are increasing, and in cases it runs into hundreds of people who come in contact with a person who tested positive. Last week, Karnataka had to isolate 2,000 staff and students of a Bangalore school and hundreds of nurses and doctors were sent into isolation at Hinduja hospital in Mumbai after a confirmed patient walked in.

As a precautionary measure, people returning from most foreign countries are being kept in government run quarantine centres for 14 days. People who are developing symptoms of COVID-19 too are being isolated in these centres.

On March 16, the Delhi government had announced that along with the government-run centres, there would also be ‘pay and quarantine’ hotels in Aerocity in the national capital. Three hotels – Red Fox, IBIS and Lemon Tree, would have the option for people to pay and quarantine themselves.
