New Delhi, Mar 5 () Pet dogs and cats are not source of coronavirus, and there is no evidence that companion animals can be infected with the disease, according to Pet Practioners Association of Karnataka.

The media reports that coronavirus is transmitted by animals is a "rumour", "false statement" and "unauthenticated report", it said in a statement.

The Association said that coronavirus disease or Covid-19 infects humans and is transmitted from human to human by contact, by air or aerosol.

"The pet animals like dogs and cats are not source of the coronavirus as confirmed by specialists. There is no evidence that companion animals can be infected with or spread Covid-19," it said. LUX HRS
