The classic cartoon series revolves around two friends named Motu and Patlu, who live in a fictional town called Furfuri Nagar.
From being inanimate characters in kids’ magazine Lotpot, Motu Patlu was brought to life by Nickelodeon in 2012.
Motu Patlu today reaches out to over 289 million viewers in seven languages across India, claims Nickelodeon. The show is amongst the top five shows on the channel, contributing 45% to Nickelodeon’s total rating.
“Ten years ago, the Indian kids’ entertainment category was in need of indigenous characters and stories and Nickelodeon, with the launch of Motu Patlu, successfully paved the way,” Nina Elavia Jaipuria, head of hindi mass entertainment & kids TV Network, Viacom18 said.
Motu Patlu has to its credit over 1,000 stories across 560 episodes, 25 movies, and 20+ games across iOS and Android.
They are also the first Indian animated character duo to have their statues at Madame Tussauds, Delhi. It was the fourth most searched show in the world in 2018 on Google Trends.
“Apart from being an exemplary piece of great storytelling, it is the affability and relatable camaraderie that made the duo a runway hit,” Anu Sikka, creative, content & research, Kids TV Network, Viacom18 said.
To celebrate ten years of Motu Patlu, the channel has also initiated a dance challenge, giving viewers a chance to feature on Nickelodeon’s social media pages.
Nickelodeon India leads viewership in the kid’s category with a household availability in about over 120 million households across eight languages.
