India added 40 billionaires in 2020 – Mukesh Ambani continues to be the richest Indian

India is home to the third largest number of billionaires in the world, after China and the US.

The Hurun Global Rich List 2021 released today shows that India added 40 billionaires in 2020.

1) Mukesh Ambani

No surprises here, with an estimated net worth of USD 83 billion, Reliance Industries chairperson Mukesh Ambani continues to be the richest Indian. His wealth grew by 24 per cent in 2020.

2) Gautam Adani and family

With an estimated net worth of USD 32 billion, Adani is the second richest Indian. Adani runs businesses across renewable energy, power distribution, airports, logistics and many more.

3) Shiv Nadar

The HCL chairperson continues to top the list of IT’s richest. Nadar has a net worth of USD 27 billion, according to Hurun, a research platform.

4) Lakshmi N Mittal

The steel baron and the owner of ArcelorMittal has an estimated net worth of USD 19 billion.

5) Cyrus Poonawalla

The vaccine maker, whose company Serum Institute of India produced the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, has an estimated net worth of USD 18.5 billion.

6) Hinduja Brothers

The four Hinduja brothers -- Srichand, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok -- who operate the conglomerate Hinduja Group have a combined estimated net worth of USD 18 billion.

7) Uday Kotak

The managing director of Kotak Mahindra Bank and one of India’s most proficient bankers, Kotak has an estimated net worth of USD 15 billion.

8) Radhakishan Damani

Damani, the man challenging Mukesh Ambani in the retail markets, owner of Avenue Supermarts that runs DMart has an estimated net worth of USD 14.5 billion.

9) Jay Chaudhry

The owner of digital services company Zscaler saw his net worth grow estimatedly by 271 per cent in the COVID-19 pandemic induced digitally accelerated world. His net worth stood at USD 13 billion.

Another pharma scion joins the list. Shanghvi, the owner of Sun Pharmaceuticals, has an estimated worth of USD 12.5 billion.
