Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet Tuesday that the company is exploring potential locations for new factory in the central US to build its futuristic, all-electric Cybertruck.

"Scouting locations for Cybertruck Gigafactory. Will be central USA," Musk wrote.

Musk unveiled the Cybertruck at a bizarre launch event last November to mixed reactions, with some mocking the truck's angular body and others praising its radical design. Ultimately, Tesla received more than 250,000 pre-orders for the Cybertruck, according to Musk.

Despite establishing itself as one of the world's most innovative car companies, Tesla has struggled to actually make its vehicles, repeatedly falling short on production goals as it tries to scale up operations.

Tesla already operates a factory in Fremont, California, where it manufactures the Model S, Model X, and Model 3. Along with Panasonic, Tesla also jointly operates a lithium battery factory in Sparks, Nevada and a solar cell factory in Buffalo, New York, both of which have had issues in recent months.

Internationally, the company announced in November that it plans to build a new "Gigafactory" near Berlin, Germany, and recently opened another in Shanghai, China.

In a separate tweet on Tuesday, Musk added: "Model Y production for east coast too," possibly implying yet another, separate factory location where the company could produce its electric all-wheel-drive crossover SUV.
