Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's budget speech specified only a few products like furniture and footwear where the basic customs duty has been increased.

However, a deeper study of the budget documents revealed a bunch of notifications where the customs duty on imported products have been raised, at times by more than three times.

These include items of daily use, albeit imported, like walnuts and kitchenware to fans and mobile phones to cigarettes and electric vehicles.
