More employees at Capgemini, Infosys, and Wipro are being brought back to offices while TCS is still in wait and watch mode

• On May 7, Infosys re-opened its offices in Mangalore, Bengaluru, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, and Hyderabad with nearly 5% of the total workforce.
  
• While TCS, which has 95% of the employees working from home globally, has less than 1% of its employees currently working out of offices.
  
• Capgemini is planning to go operational with 10% staff. “We will increase this number gradually depending on the guidelines to 25-30% over the next couple of weeks,” Pallavi Tyagi, CHRO at Capgemini India told Business Insider.

Indian IT employees are gradually getting back to the offices, as the government relaxed lockdown norms.

The Indian government recently allowed the tech companies to work with 33% staff in offices. Given that, several IT majors like Infosys, SAP Labs, TCS and Wipro are stepping up their efforts to resume operations, sending a few employees to work from office locations.

On May 7, Infosys re-opened its offices in Mangalore, Bengaluru, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, and Hyderabad with nearly 5% of the total workforce. That accounts for nearly 12,000 employees in India. With necessary precautions in place, the company plans to raise it to 40% in the coming weeks.

“As lockdowns begin to ease across India, our CEO Salil Parekh, along with a few Infoscions, get back to our campuses that are equipped and prepared for the ‘new normal’,” Infosys said in a tweet.

While TCS, which has 95% of the employees working from home globally, has less than 1% of its employees currently working out of offices. The company says it is in no hurry to work from offices.

“We are resuming operations in a phased manner in select offices with minimal capacity after careful consideration and taking into account civic authority and state government orders. We have rolled out guidelines in our campuses which includes awareness sessions for employees and vendors, self-declaration forms, alteration of workspace layout and virtual collaboration tools for meetings. Other measures include temperature screening at all entry gates, use of hand sanitizers, periodic deep cleaning and disinfecting of office premises as also sanitising all Vehicles entering TCS premises,” TCS said in a statement.

Capgemini, on the other hand, is planning to go operational with 10% staff. “We plan less than 10-15% of our employees to be in office currently depending on the criticality of the projects they are working on. We are working on a plan so that employees can come back to office in a phased manner. We will increase this number gradually depending on the guidelines to 25-30% over the next couple of weeks,” Pallavi Tyagi, CHRO at Capgemini India told Business Insider.

At first, the company plans to send those employees to work from offices that are currently on ‘extremely critical projects’ or those who are unable to work from home due to client security guidelines.

“We will slowly increase this number basis the guidelines and if there is a need for employees to be at the office. Else we will continue to permit work from home keeping in mind our employee’s health and safety. We have nearly 95% of our billable employees working from home and delivering to our clients,” Tyagi added.

Meanwhile, companies like HCL Technologies and SAP Labs are introducing necessary precautionary measures to help their employees. Wipro started its operations in the Kochi office last month, keeping in mind the social distancing measures while HCL Technologies is implementing additional allowances like transport service and flexible lunch hours for employees and sterilization of the office premises to keep the safety in check.
