2020 is going to be a big year for the Indian auto industry. After a dismal 2019 where the auto manufacturers were caught in the massive slowdown, carmakers like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki. Honda, Hyundai are all rushing for new launches in the new year.
From April 2020, the sale of only BSVI vehicles too means that companies are waiting for customers to pick up newer models of cars. Maruti, which has already launched the BSVI versions of its best selling models like Alto, Swift, is also readying for multiple facelifts of its previous cars.
Here are the new car launches to watch out for in 2020
The Hyundai Aura Sedan will be officially launched in January 2020. Coming as a rival for Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze, Aura is rumoured to be priced between ₹5.5 lakh to ₹9 lakh. The sedan will also come with three BSVI compliant options – two in petrol and one in diesel.
Tata Nexon EV
The much talked about launch from Tata Motors is Tata Nexon EV. Recently, the company unveiled the car before launching it in January 2020. Pre-bookings for the Nexon EV start at ₹21,000. This will be the first electric SUV from the Tata family.
Skoda Karoq SUV
The Skoda Karoq SUV will hit the Indian roads by April 2020. The mid-size SUV will come as a competition to MG Hector, Jeep Compass etc. This is also the first SUV from the Skoda family to come to India. It is said to be priced between ₹18 lakh- ₹20 lakh.
Tata Altroz
There’s a lot counting on this hatchback from the Tata Motors family. Tata Altroz will be launched in January 2020 and is set to be priced between ₹5.5 lakh to ₹8.5 lakh. With this, Tata will enter the premium hatchback segment. The company has also confirmed an EV version of the Tata Altroz.
Skoda Octavia RS 245
Another car from Skoda family to come to India in 2020 is the Skoda Octavia RS 245. Coming to India under CBU, the Skoda Octavia RS 245 will have just 200 units initially and will be available after the Delhi Auto Show in February. It is expected to have a price of ₹30 lakh.
Tata Gravitas
Tata Gravitas was initially showcased in the Geneva Auto Show in 2019 and was called the Buzzard. But as the 7 seater SUV heads to India, it has also turned a lot of heads. It is a bigger version of the 5-seater Harrier from the Tata family. It will give competition to the Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector.
Land Rover Defender
The Defender, which had been running for 67 years, went off the roads in 2016 as it couldn’t meet the stricter US car emissions of 2020, is making a comeback. In India, the car will be available for commercial sales from June 2020.
Audi e-tron
The much awaited electric vehicle from luxury carmaker Audi is also headed to India in 2020. The Audi e-tron is an electric SUV. The car is being brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) under the government’s new rule where it allows foreign carmakers to import 2,500 built cars to India.
Nissan Leaf EV
Another EV to hit the Indian markets in 2020 is the Nissan Leaf EV. The successful electric product from Nissan was confirmed by the company to be launching in India soon. It is reportedly one of the highest selling EV cars in the world. It will be priced between ₹30-35 lakh in India.
Kia Carnival
After the successful tenure of its first car in India (Kia Seltos), Kia is now gearing up for its next Indian launch. Kia Carnival is a minivan which will be launched soon after the Auto Expo in February. The Kia Carnival will be available in India in three different varieties – 6,7 and 8 seater. It has an expected price of ₹30 lakh.
