Jaguar Land Rover unveils its electric car concept that is ready to go autonomous

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled a new concept vehicle dubbed as Project Vector as part of its Destination Zero mission. It is an electric and ‘autonomy-ready’ urban mobility concept.

The Project Vector concept car was announced at the opening of the National Automotive Innovation Centre, while keeping the specifications under the wrap. It has not neither revealed the size of the battery nor the range.

The concept car however has an interesting design which is made keeping various use cases in mind. The British car maker intends to have a version of the vehicle on the road for testing by 2021.

“Through this project, we are collaborating with the brightest minds in academia, supply chain and digital services, to create connected, integrated mobility systems — the fundamental building blocks for Destination Zero,” said Ralf Speth, the CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.


Driver’s seat

The concept car has a seat for the driver and a steering wheel for traditional human use. But the vehicle has been built to conform to future use cases to turn it autonomous if need be. We can see two seats at the front and an infotainment screen.

Compact design

The concept car measures four meters in length and has been designed for urban use. It’s motor and battery pack have been built into a flat floor.

Configurable

The seating configuration can be used for private use, shared use or for making last mile goods delivery.

Pilot mobility service

The company plans to collaborate with Coventry City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority to start a pilot mobility service in late 2021 on the streets of Coventry. The company has said that the pilot will act as a “living laboratory for future mobility on the streets of Coventry”.
