Burn Belly Fat, Keep Hypertension At A Bay

Sep 3, 2014, 16:54 IST
Do you have extra fat around your abdominal area? Start exercising to shed that proverbial 'spare tire' you are roaming with. As per a recent study appeared in the journal of the American College of Cardiology, people with fat around their abdominal area are more prone to hypertension (high blood pressure). On the other hand those with similar body mass index (BMI) but fat concentrations elsewhere on the body are at a low risk of high BP, says a study.

"Having centrally located fat when you look in the mirror tends to correlate with higher levels of fat inside the abdomen," said senior author Aslan Turer from the University of Texas, Dallas.

In order to track development of hypertension, researchers followed 903 patients for an average of seven years.

While examining abdominal fat content, overall fat content and lower body fat content of these patients, scientists discovered that only abdominal fat had a link with hypertension.

So stay fit to live a healthy life.
