According to The Providence Journal, the student tested positive for GHB - gamma hydroxybutrate - after drinking punch at a party thrown by Brown's Phi Kappa Psi fraternity chapter. A second student has also been tested for the drug, and the results are currently pending.
"GHB is a colorless, odorless drug that can be hard to detect in a drink ... but has a strong sedative effect that is incapacitating," a Brown administrator wrote in the campus email.
One student also reported that she was sexually assaulted the night of the Phi Psi party.
Brown administrators had sent out a campus-wide email last month stating that the fraternity was being investigated after the two students reported "a rapid onset of intoxication out of proportion to what they may have had to drink," as well as "memory loss for a significant period of time," The Brown Daily Herald reported on Oct. 25.
