Britain's most decorated Olympian Sir Bradley Wiggins just signed up for the most dangerous show on TV
Wiggins is the highest-profile contestant on the upcoming fourth season of "The Jump," which has been dubbed the most dangerous show on television because of injuries to celebrities taking part in previous series.
Seven famous faces sustained injuries during series three last year, the most serious of which was former British Olympian Beth Tweddle. The ex-gymnast underwent surgery after fracturing a vertebrae.
Other injuries in 2016 included "Made in Chelsea" star Mark Francis fracturing his ankle, while actress Tina Hobley broke her arm in two places. Twofour, the production company that makes "The Jump," carried out an urgent safety review at the request of Channel 4 last year and introduced additional precautions, including extra crash pads.
The celebrities sustained the breaks while taking part in a number of winter sports, including bobsleigh and slalom skiing. All contestants also have to take part in a ski jump.
Wiggins told Channel 4 that skiing was a "big passion" of his. "I see this as a sporting challenge and want to go out there and win it. Just don't call me a celebrity," he said.
His involvement in "The Jump" comes just days after he announced his retirement from cycling. During his time in the sport, the 36-year-old won five Olympic gold medals and the Tour de France. He is Great Britain's most decorated Olympian and his former coach Shane Sutton said he is "the greatest athlete of all time."
"The Jump" will air on Channel 4 in early 2017.
