- President Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to be the newest Supreme Court Justice.
- Kavanaugh is the third high-level Trump appointee to be a graduate of Georgetown Preparatory School.
- In addition to Kavanaugh, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell also attended Georgetown Prep.
President Donald Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to be the newest member of the Supreme Court could cement the president's judicial legacy. It has also appeared to cement the legacy of one Washington, DC-area Jesuit school.
Since taking office in 2017, Trump has now selected three alumni of Georgetown Preparatory School to serve in high-ranking positions in the federal government.
In addition to Kavanaugh (class of 1983), Trump's other Supreme Court appointee, Neil Gorsuch, also attend the school (class of 1985), as did Trump's selection for Federal Reserve Chair, Jerome Powell (class of 1971).
According to Georgetown Prep's website, Kavanaugh was a member of the basketball team, football team, and the school newspaper while in high school. Gorsuch was selected as Georgetown Prep's president of the yard, the equivalent of the student body president, and was a member of the forensics club. Powell was the eighth member of his family to attend the school.
"It's been a good year for Prep graduates in public service, which is what the school has always been about," Rev. Scott Pilarz, the recently departed president of Georgetown Prep, told The New York Times.
Georgetown Prep was founded by Jesuit priest John Carroll, the first Catholic bishop in the US, in 1789, along with the university of the same name. The high school eventually relocated away from the university in 1919.
In addition to Trump's trio of appointees, the school boasts other famous alumni, including former Democratic Rep. John Dingell, retiring GOP Rep. Frank LoBiondo, chef and entrepreneur David Chang, former NBA player Roy Hibbert, comedian and journalist Mo Rocca, and New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.
