The billionaire real-estate mogul has been running on his business record, touting his immense wealth as proof that he'd be able to improve the country's economy.
The US economy added 38,000 jobs in May - about 122,000 fewer than expected - while the unemployment rate fell to 4.7%.
Economists had forecast that nonfarm payrolls grew by 160,000 in May - the same pace as April - while the unemployment rate slipped to 4.9% from 5%, according to Bloomberg.
