BMW unveiled a concept for the interior of driverless cars on Wednesday at a press conference in Las Vegas at CES.

The concept, dubbed the BMWi Inside Future, showcases how BMW envisions its autonomous vehicles may look when they start to hit the market. The interior concept is centered on connectivity and includes a panoramic display that can be operated just like a touchscreen - except physical contact isn't necessary.

This is made possible by BMW's new user interface concept for the interior, called the HoloActive Touch system. The system is a virtual "free floating" display that's controlled via finger gestures, not via touch. The virtual display is projected in the area above the center console.

The interior also includes a steering wheel that folds away when in autonomous mode, a massive display screen in the backseat for entertainment, and plenty of space for reclining.

The concept even has space for a bookshelf.

"It's not about just being driven, but about the experience," said Klaus Frohlich, a member of BMW's board of management, during the press event. "Every single seat in the car will be the best seat."
