Bengaluru molestation shocker: This is what these sexist political leaders said

In a shocking incident, several women were molested during New Year's celebrations in Bengaluru.

Many women were assaulted by a mob in Bengaluru on December 31st night. Videos flashed on many news channels, showing how men were deliberately trying to fall on girls, groping them.

Following this incident, many women rights activists have sprung into action, demanding investigation. So far, no arrests have been made.
Police said they are going through the CCTV footage but have not received any complaints of sexual assault.

Amid all this, our leaders have, once again, made several sexist remarks, putting the blame on women.

Samajwadi Party leader from Maharashtra Abu Asim Azmi and Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara have made insensitive remarks, blaming women for dressing up provocatively.

Azmi said, “In today's world, the more a woman is nude, the more she is considered modern and educated. Such things are on rise in the country. Western culture is a black spot on country's culture and it should be stopped at the earliest. And we need to focus on out famous Indian culture.”

Even though Azmi’s party has distanced itself from the remarks, the leader has no remorse.

“If my sister is going outside home after sunset with a boy to celebrate New Year, it cannot be expected that people will behave with her in a respectable manner. Many people may get disappointed with my remarks but I don't care. And this is the fact. I am not against the freedom to women but we need to take precaution,” said Azmi.

Women rights group have condemned his remark, demanding an apology and his expulsion from the party.

Meanwhile, Parameshwara said, “We had deployed 1500 police personnel in the area for new year's celebrations. Such incidents do happen on New Year day and on Christmas. We take a lot of precautions.”
