Belgium defeats England 2-0 in third place match at FIFA World Cup

Belgium defeated England Saturday for the second time in the 2018 World Cup. The match, which Belgium won 2-0, gives the country a third-place finish in the tournament.
Thomas Meunier gave Belgium an early lead with a goal in the fourth minute. Eden Hazard secured the victory with a goal in the 82nd minute.
England lost despite having possession of the ball for 58% of the match and taking more shots. They outshot Belgium 15-12 and took six shots on goal, compared to just four for the winning team. England's Harry Kane, who is a favorite to win the Golden Boot Award, was held scoreless on two shots.
Both Belgium and England started the tournament in Group G. The two teams previously played each other in a group round match on June 28. Belgium also won that contest by a score of 1-0.
The third-place finish is Belgium's best performance at the World Cup. Their previous best showing was in 1986 when they finished in fourth place.
England also finished in fourth place at the 1990 World Cup. Their only appearance in a World Cup finals match was in 1966 when England was crowned champion.
England lost to Croatia in the semi-finals and Belgium fell to France. Croatia and France will face off in the World Cup final on Sunday.
