Belgian police are searching for a second suspected terrorist believed to have been involved in the bombing of the Brussels metro on Tuesday, Le Monde and Belgian broadcaster RTBF are reporting.

It was initially thought that the attack on Maelbeek metro station on Tuesday was carried out solely by Khalid El Bakraoui.

Le Monde reports that the identity of Bakraoui's suspected accomplice is not yet known and that police are "actively seeking" him.

Najim Laachraoui, the shadowy ISIS bomb maker thought to be behind the November 13 Paris attacks and Tuesday's explosions in Brussels, was identified by DNA as the second suicide bomber at Zaventem Airport, Le Monde has reported.

The Washington Post and Fox News also reported that Laachraoui was the second suspected suicide bomber and is believed to have died in the Tuesday airport attack.

Laachraoui, 24, who was born in Morocco but grew up in Brussels' Schaerbeek neighborhood, is believed to have traveled to Syria in 2013.

Salah Abdeslam, who was arrested last week following a raid in Brussels, is due to appear in court on Thursday in Brussels over his potential extradition to France, Sky News reports.
