Baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby speaks on recent violence and says there is "probable cause to file criminal charges in the Freddie Gray case" of officers involved in the arrest of the black man who later died of injuries he sustained while in custody in Baltimore, Maryland May 1, 2015.
Sun crime reporter Justin George was granted exclusive access to observe the department's task force investigation into Gray's death, which stemmed from a severe spinal cord injury sustained during a ride in a police van after he was arrested on April 12.
As of Friday morning, according to The Sun, police leadership was still planning on feeding additional reports to Mosby's office. The task force was expecting to continue working on its investigation through the weekend.
George describes the scene at the police station Friday morning, as task force members watched Mosby's press conference in Baltimore PD Col. Garnell Green's office:
They stood motionless as Mosby began speaking. A lieutenant wearing a suit and bow tie rested his left hand on a leather chair; Green stood in uniform against the wall, hands behind his back. As Mosby read off the charges - including second-degree depraved-heart murder, the most serious, against [van driver Officer Caesar R. Goodson, Jr.] - stunned looks crossed their faces ... They had not expected the state's attorney's office to act so soon.
As of Thursday, the day before the indictments against the six officers were announced, the task force had a checklist of 145 items to complete, The Sun reports. Their investigation is still ongoing.
