We' re live from Apple's Biggest tech event: WWDC 2015

The <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/oneplus-one-1244307/review">OnePlus One</a> came out of nowhere as the first product of a new company, but it didn't disappoint, thanks to high end specs and a surprisingly low price tag.

	One of the biggest complaints we could level at it was how hard it was to get hold of at launch and when that's the biggest problem a phone is facing you know you've got a winner on your hands.

	But while there were no expectations for the OnePlus One hopes are sky high for the OnePlus 2, so it's got a lot to live up to.

	News and rumors</h3>

	We don't know a huge amount about the OnePlus Two yet, but it's supposedly set to land during <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-two-gets-a-new-name-but-it-s-facing-delays-1282103">the third quarter of 2015</a>.

	There are rumblings that it could have <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-2-could-get-a-metal-makeover-1287338">a premium metal build</a>, while <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-two-might-get-a-quadhd-display-and-snapdragon-810-1280992">specs are rumored to include</a> a 5.5-inch QHD screen, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 3300 mAh battery and <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-two-rumours-point-to-another-big-screened-beast-1275546">older reports point to</a> a 16MP main camera and a 5MP front-facing snapper.

	While we know it will land with <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-oxygen-os-arrives-in-march-but-you-ll-have-to-install-it-yourself-1284525">OxygenOS</a> almost certainly paired with <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/software/operating-systems/android-5-0-lollipop-1271651/review">Android Lollipop</a> and perhaps most intriguingly of all it's set to '<a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-two-will-surprise-people-but-there-are-no-plans-for-a-tablet-1279648">surprise people</a>'.

	Of course all the rumors that we've heard could turn out to be false and there's still plenty that we don't know, so here's what we want to see.
<h3>
	1. A more premium build</h3>

	The OnePlus One is a top tier handset, but it doesn't look like a top tier handset so we really hope the OnePlus Two will have a more premium build.

	The obvious choice here is metal, which there are <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-2-could-get-a-metal-makeover-1287338">rumors we'll see</a> this time around, but we'd be just as happy with something like bamboo. The OnePlus One briefly had bamboo back covers available, but manufacturing issues meant they were discontinued and this time we'd like to see them included as standard.

	2. A similarly low price</h3>

	One of the biggest selling points of the OnePlus One is its relatively low price tag, as it starts at just £229, $299. That price hasn't gone down since launch, so it's slightly less impressive now than it once was, but it's less than half the cost of most flagships.

	If the specs and build are improved as is likely then there's <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-2-could-get-a-metal-makeover-1287338">a good chance</a> that the OnePlus 2 will also be more expensive, but if it is then we hope not by much.

	3. A microSD card slot</h3>

	Cut corners are always likely to be necessary when delivering a phone as good value as the OnePlus One and one of them was the omission of a microSD card slot.

	We can't be too hard on it when phones twice its price, like the <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-s6-1285636/review">Samsung Galaxy S6</a>, also lack such a slot, but we'd love to see one included in the OnePlus Two so that storage is less limited.

	Or at the very least an option for more internal memory. The 64GB available in some versions of the OnePlus One is pretty generous, but we're sure it could be increased to 128GB.

	4. A removable battery</h3>

	Another slight disappointment with the OnePlus One was that the battery isn't removable. That's the case with a lot of phones and the OnePlus One does at least have quite good battery life.

	But if you're a power user it's nice to know you can swap the battery out if needed and perhaps even more importantly it means you can replace the battery when yours wears out rather than having to buy a whole new phone.

	5. Even better specs</h3>

	With its 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM the One is undeniably a powerful phone and back when it launched in June 2014 it was one of the most powerful handsets on the planet.

	But by the time the OnePlus Two launches it will be around a year old and time moves fast in the tech world, with octa-core processors now the norm among flagships. So at a minimum we hope the OnePlus 2 will keep pace with the latest and greatest phones around.

	The obvious setup for that would be to have an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM, just like the <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/htc-one-m9-1285623/review">HTC One M9</a>, but if OnePlus feels like it wants to overpower the competition we won't complain. <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/oneplus-two-might-get-a-quadhd-display-and-snapdragon-810-1280992">4GB of RAM anyone</a>?

	6. The same size screen</h3>

	This might seem odd but we don't want the screen to get any bigger. The OnePlus One already has a 5.5-inch display and that's pushing the limits of usability as it is. In fact we wouldn't complain if the screen on the OnePlus Two was slightly smaller.

	That's not to say that we wouldn't like to see improvements though. OnePlus could always up the resolution to QHD (assuming the battery life doesn't take too much of a hit) and as good as the screen on the One is things like contrast and colour reproduction can always be improved.

	7. A top flight camera</h3>

	The 13MP shooter on the OnePlus One is more than adequate but even at launch it wasn't one of the best smartphone snappers around and the gulf has only widened since.

	So with the OnePlus 2 we'd like to see some improvements. The OnePlus One seems a little slow to autofocus, so a fix for that would be appreciated, whether through a new system like a laser autofocus or just through software optimisation.

	More megapixels and optical image stabilisation would both be nice too, but they don't always lead to better photos, which is what we want. How that will be achieved is down to OnePlus to figure out.

	8. A powerful UI</h3>

	The UI on the OnePlus One was worthy of special mention, because it used CyanogenMod, which on the surface looks quite close to stock Android, but there's a whole lot of power and customisation options tucked away for more adventurous users.

	Sadly OnePlus has had a bit of a falling out with Cyanogen, so a new home-grown UI dubbed OxygenOS will be replacing it on the OnePlus 2 and we hope it will be every bit as powerful and intuitive.

	9. Water and dust proofing</h3>

	Water and dust proofing is a feature which we've never felt is essential on phones as we stopped pond diving years ago, but it's still nice to have if it doesn't come at the expense of anything else and it would be one more bullet point in the OnePlus Two's favour.

	We doubt we'll see it, mostly because it could push the cost up and a low price surely takes priority, but also because a metal build is looking likely and not many metal phones seem to be waterproof.

	10. A killer feature</h3>

	Price and specs go a long way towards selling a smartphone, but for the OnePlus Two to really stand out and not just feel like a rehash of the OnePlus One a big feature would help.

	That could take any number of forms. OnePlus could follow other manufacturer's leads and have a curved screen like the <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-1286088/review">Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge</a> and <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/lg-g-flex-2-1263346/review">LG G Flex 2</a>, or it could pack in serious fitness credentials with a heart rate monitor and the tools to track your progress. Or it could add a fingerprint scanner like Apple and Samsung have been doing.

	But to stand out even more it could include something we've not seen anywhere else. Perhaps a retina scanner for example.

	It probably won't have any big features like that, because cost is key, but if it did and if the cost could still be kept down then the OnePlus 2 could be a true flagship killer.
OnePlus has teased the possibility of OnePlus Two smartphone via cryptic tweet which states "time for change" dated for June 1 which isn't too far away now.

OnePlus Two: What we want to see?

Net neutrality is the concept that makes it mandatory for all service providers to offer access to consumers to all content on the internet including websites and applications, irrespective of the source and no special favors or blocking of any applications or websites. 
 
Unfortunately, the giant telecos in the country are lobbying against this. Common users as well as many corporates, especially in those in the tech domain are coming out to support net neutrality. The huge debate erupted when Airtel came up with Zero programme and e-commerce giant Flipkart decided to party with it. Post the huge outburst on the social media, Flipkart announced that it was walking away from the Zero initiative. 
 
Airtel too has come out and said that it is not against net Neutrality in India and the company is now looking at reaching out to its customers through direct mails. The mail quotes Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO of Airtel, who states, “Our vision is to have every Indian on the internet. There are millions of Indians who think that the internet is expensive and do not know what it can do for them. We believe that every Indian has the right to be on the internet. We know that if we allow them to experience the joys of the internet they will join the digital revolution” 
 
Talking specifically about the recent controversy, Vittal says, “There has been a deliberate effort by some quarters to confuse people that we will offer differential speeds or differential access for different sites. This is untrue. After all we earn revenues from data. If there are more customers who are on the Internet the better it is for our business. Our revenues are not dependent on which sites they visit because we charge on the basis of consumption of mega bytes not which site they visited.”

Even Cellular Operators Association in India (COAI) has come up and shared that it is all up for net neutrality. In its statement it also made a strong pitch for ‘Net Equality’ that will enable access to Internet for a Billion Indians as part of the Government’s Digital India vision. 
 
The Association urged all stakeholders to have a comprehensive and informed debate on the subject of Net Neutrality keeping in mind the requirements of India and its citizens. An important and complex subject such as this, which is still being debated in many countries, which has taken years to conclude in many other countries and which is the subject of litigation in some, should not be left to the opinion of a few. 
 
It further said, “We need the same spirit to connect a Billion Indians to the Internet. This means innovations across the ecosystem – affordable smartphones, more efficient networks, even more broad ranging applications (especially in areas such as education, health, governance) and pricing flexibility – that promotes greater digital inclusion. Only then can our citizens in rural India, or from a lower economic strata, be empowered through internet access”. 
 
A lot of top men in corporate and technology world too have come in support of net neutrality. Here is a snapshot of what some of the leading players in the industry have to say 
 
 
Ritesh Agarwal CEO, OYO Rooms (revolutionary budget hotel) in support of net neutrality said, “Net neutrality is absolutely essential for a free and competitive market especially now since there is a start- up boom in the country particularly in the online sector. Most importantly Internet was created to break boundaries and as concerned industry players, we should maintain that. We support net neutrality and will do all needed to build this further.” 
 
Manav Sethi, Group CMO, Askme believes, "Internet is an essential service and should be provided without any discrimination, zero rating platforms can seriously affect the freedom and growth of the billions of entrepreneurs, quite against the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ vision of our government. Any violation of internet neutrality can have a serious bearing on effective and fair competition in the market place. We feel it’s the government’s responsibility to ensure a level playing field for home grown entrepreneurs and at the same time protect the interests of netizens." 
 
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and CEO-India, MakeMyTrip says, "We are committed to a free internet and fully support Net Neutrality. Innovation is core to our DNA and a free internet will foster innovation and boost the pace of economic growth of the country. A 2011 McKinsey Report on ‘The Impact Of Internet On Economic Growth &amp; Prosperity’ suggests that higher internet penetration leads to a rise in living standard and drives business transformation and economic modernization. In light of this analysis, it will be important for India to not only accelerate the penetration of internet, but also make sure that the next set of mobile-first users who are coming online from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities find valuable services, in a language they understand, on the internet. We urge all government departments to consider how internet can be integrated in their respective areas, in order to provide value to this first-time internet user, instead of treating the internet as a separate vertical. We would also like to propose a democratic network-neutral platform, where companies can come together to build solutions for these first-time internet users (in their native languages), to support the growth and penetration of internet in India, without any commercial arrangement between the parties involved." 
 
Tripti Lochan, CEO VML says, “Keeping neutrality of data is sacred. It levels the playing field and as a country gives us hope - that we are about enterprise and not just about scale, where big eats small. It's about a very simple fundamental principle - equality. Today, consciously, let's make a choice that counts.” 
 
Kallol Borah, CEO &amp; Founder, Lukup Media believes, "The internet needs to be neutral - no internet application provider ‎or consumer should be deprived of or get a different treatment based on a special contract or payment made to the telecom or internet service provider. However, we all know that telecom and internet infrastructure requires huge investments and since that infrastructure is so poor and is not available to all, there is a case for a levy made equally on all internet application providers by internet service providers based on outgoing traffic that such internet application providers consume. So, if a website sends out X GB of data another website sends out Y GB of data, they will pay an additional charge per GB to the internet service provider."

3 tips to boost team productivity

	Buying a desktop computer can be a lengthy process involving many complex decisions, but none come with quite as much jargon as figuring out the best CPU.

	Before you know it, you're drowning in talk of cores and clock speeds, socket types and chipsets, Piledriver, Steamroller and more.

	While you'll need to consider at least some of these issues, there's an easier way to approach your purchasing problems. And that's to ignore the technical detail, just for the moment, and focus first on a more fundamental question: Intel vs AMD, which processors are the best for you?

	You'll probably find that answering this question is much more straightforward. And once you've made your choice, many other decisions about your new PC will fall into place, saving you plenty of time.
<h3>
	Intel vs AMD: Intel CPUs</h3>

	If performance is top of your priorities (and you can afford the price tag) then Intel processors are a good choice. Don't take our word for it, just check out high-end systems like the <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/laptops-portable-pcs/laptops-and-netbooks/msi-gt72-dominator-pro-1258261/review">MSI GT72 Dominator Pro</a>, <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/pc-mac-desktops/palicomp-hydro-780-1255056/review">Palicomp Hydro-780</a> or <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/pc-mac-desktops/dell-precision-t7610-1259274/review">Dell's monster Precision T7610</a>: it's almost always Intel inside.

	The difference can be marginal, though, depending on what you're trying to do. You may struggle to notice much difference in gaming performance, and if you're planning to overclock your chosen CPU - and your target applications make good use of multiple cores - then AMD may sometimes offer equivalent or better speeds for much less cash.

	Intel's Core M (<a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/processors/intel-promises-broadwell-will-spawn-a-wave-of-innovation--1261087">or "Broadwell"</a>) family isn't expected to bring any major changes in single core performance, either. If anything, it could deliver less than the move to Haswell, with a barely noticeable 5% speed increase.

	The real gain this time will come from the move to a 14nm manufacturing process, cutting power requirements by as much as 30%, allowing for fanless tablets less than 8mm thick and yet another leap in battery life.

	The major performance increase could be in graphics, thanks to 20% more execution units (although new 4K support will probably soak up most of that). We'll find out for sure as the various Broadwell CPUs arrive throughout the first half of 2015 (see: <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/intel-broadwell-vs-haswell-what-s-new-in-intel-cpus--1256530">Broadwell vs Haswell: What's New?</a>).

	Intel's latest technologies could make a real difference to mobile devices, then. But if you're looking for a desktop solution which delivers great performance, without having to face the massive price premium of Intel's high-end chips, then the company's Core i5 products are still where some of its best deals are to be found.

	Intel vs AMD: the AMD competition</h3>

	While Intel hopes to see big gains from the move to a 14nm process, AMD (still at 28nm, with 20nm cores likely in 2015) is taking an entirely different path, reworking their CPUs to deliver something new: <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/amd-s-kaveri-processor-is-coming-to-a-mobile-device-near-you-1251560">Kaveri</a>.

	The big change is support for Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA for short), which is all about more tightly integrating CPU and GPU cores. In particular, the old division of memory - CPUs had one block, GPUs another, and they were handled in very different ways - is replaced by a tidy new scheme (<a href="http://www.slideshare.net/AMD/amd-heterogeneous-uniform-memory-access">hUMA</a>) where everyone shares the same RAM access, queuing and execution rights.

	What this means is that each CPU and graphics core in a Kaveri chip can now be running a separate process, in its own memory space, independent from the others. It's a new way of doing things which AMD says requires a brand new term, "compute cores", to help compare them properly. Kaveri's A10-7850K with 4 CPU and 8 GPU cores can now be considered to have twelve "compute cores", for example (an <a href="http://www.amd.com/Documents/Compute_Cores_Whitepaper.pdf">AMD white paper</a> [PDF] explains more).

	But this is just the start. Kaveri's Steamroller CPU cores are 10% faster for single-threaded tasks, maybe twice that when multi-threading, enhanced GCN (Graphics Core Next) cores deliver even better graphics performance, and support for <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/is-amd-s-mantle-really-worth-it--1248608">AMD's Mantle</a> (a faster alternative to DirectX for GCN adapters) should accelerate your gaming even more.

	It's not yet clear how this will play out. HSA in particular shows real potential, but it doesn't just "work". Software needs to be written to take full advantage of it. That's going to take time - and even then, HSA isn't just an AMD technology, there's nothing to stop Intel adding HSA support to its own products.

	Still, Kaveri is a notable step forward for AMD, and a real improvement on its previous technology. It's not an Intel beater - yet - but the design is even now a genuine competitor for Intel in some areas.

	Intel vs AMD: which is best?</h3>

	We've looked at the two companies, then - but which is best? Of course, it all depends on what you're looking for.

	At the low end of the market, where price is key, a dual-core system may have to do. Intel's Celeron G1840 is a very basic two-core, two-thread CPU, but it's also a Haswell chip at only £33 (around US$54, AU$61). AMD's A6 5400K is another interesting budget option: weaker as a processor, but with decent integrated HD 7540D graphics considering the £40 (around US$65, AU$74) price tag.

	Move into the budget gaming market and the AMD FX-6300 is a great product. Six Piledriver cores deliver excellent multithreaded performance, it's seriously overclockable, and the end result delivers close to Intel i3 speed for less money - it's under £80 (around US$130, AU$148) right now.

	Alternatively, the mid-range Kaveri chip A8-7600 already delivers excellent graphics performance along with minimal power requirements for a mere £75 (around US$122, AU$139), and some people will see it get even faster as HSA and Mantle take off.

	Excellent single-core performance does mean that many regular desktop systems will generally be better off with an Intel processor, though. If you can live without overclocking then the Core i5-4570 delivers something close to the power of a Core i7 for a much lower price - around £145 (around US$235, AU$270) - although beware: hyper-threading is disabled.

	Microsoft is hosting an event September 30 to show off "what's next for Windows," signalling it's finally time to see <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/windows-9-release-date-news-and-rumours-1029245">Windows 9</a>.

	The event, taking place in San Francisco, was <a href="http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/operating-systems/microsoft-reportedly-will-reveal-windows-9-on-september-30-1262420">rumored late last month</a>, but now invites from Microsoft are landing in virtual mailboxes everywhere. Redmond bigwigs Joe Belfiore and Terry Myerson will be on hand to the proceedings.

	Though the future of Windows will be up for discussion, enterprise and power users will be this event's main focus. In fact, <a href="http://recode.net/2014/09/15/microsoft-will-offer-early-look-at-next-windows-on-sept-30/">Recode</a> reports the event will be geared towards business users, with other events planned later in the year to show off Windows 9 features for different user groups.

	In addition to demonstrating some of what's being done with Windows 9, Microsoft is expected to release a Windows Technical Preview for developers and business users to start prep work on their systems. It won't be publicly available and the version of Windows 9 we see September 30 will likely change before that date comes.

	What's to come with Windows 9</h3>

	Microsoft's invitations come amid <a href="http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/operating-systems/windows-9-cortana-virtual-desktops-and-more-appear-in-action-1265618">a slew of Windows 9 leaks</a> showing off everything from virtual desktops to a new Notification Center to a more traditional Start menu.

	In addition to add-ons and tweaks from <a href="http://www.techradar.com/us/reviews/pc-mac/software/operating-systems/windows-8-1093002/review">Windows 8</a> and <a href="http://www.techradar.com/us/reviews/pc-mac/software/operating-systems/windows-8-1-1161745/review">Windows 8.1</a>, Windows 9 is expected to more deeply integrate Microsoft's various OSes than ever before.

	One rumored cross-over will be Cortana, Windows Phone's virtual assistant, moving to the desktop. Some say it will be missing from early test versions of Windows 9 but the Siri-rival should show its face at a later date.
