As GST date draws near, govt sets up a special war room for related queries
Just two days are left before India implements goods and services tax (GST), the biggest tax reform since independence, and the government is trying to make sure that there are no doubts left over GST by the time it’s rolled out.
"A special war room has been created... This will address issues, if they crop up, in implementation," a senior government official told ET.
The war room will be functional from 8 AM to 10 PM, and would cater to all doubts relating to GST.
Known as GST Feedback and Action Room, it was set up by the Central Board of Excise and Customs and ensures that GST is implemented smoothly.
It boasts of state-of-the-art communications equipment with experts on hand to so that technology-related concerns, if any, can be addressed as well.
GST will replace a range of state taxes like value-added tax, purchase tax, entertainment tax as well as central taxes including central excise duty, countervailing duty, service tax and a number of cesses.
