Apple’s keen interest in India has become evident now as it has asked chief of App Store and iTunes, Khushboo Ponwar, to concentrate only on India.
Apple, which is eyeing a major share of Indian smartphone segment, changed Ponwar’s profile, who is responsible for business in the Middle East, Turkey, Africa and India.
But now she will only focus on India.
Apple sees India as a bright spot. Meanwhile, the iPhone maker is doing everything it can to boost its presence in the country.
It will also set up single-brand retail stores in India, provided the Indian government and Apple settle down regarding local sourcing norms.
Also, when Apple CEO Tim Cook visited India, he opened its new office in Hyderabad, investing about $25 million and creating up to 4,000 jobs.
The centre will focus on developing Maps for iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watch. Cook also announced an accelerator facility in Bengaluru that would support entrepreneurs and app developers.
