Amidst the dozens of announcements made at its WWDC 2019 keynote last week, Apple quietly laid the groundwork for a pair of smart glasses, which have been rumored for years and are expected to finally release sometime in 2020.

Augmented reality, or AR, lets you see and manipulate virtual elements in the real world; this technology is expected to be the centerpiece of Apple's rumored smart glasses. And towards the end of its 2-hour keynote last week, Apple announced a handful of developer tools designed for building augmented reality experiences.
