Apple just made some huge updates to the Apple TV
This is the first time Apple's made any significant updates to its set-top box device, and it shows Apple's serious about challenging the TV industry that Tim Cook once said was "stuck in the 70s."
Here's everything we've learned about the new Apple TV so far:
- New remote with touch surface and Siri-support: You can tap and swipe the remote for search, and use Siri to find your favorite show, or even a specific episode you're looking for. You can use Siri to filter your search based on cast, director, or genre. Even during the show, you can voice-search for sports scores or the cast of the show and get immediate results.
- Universal Search: You can use Siri to search for your favorite show across different sources, including Hulu, Amazon, and HBO Now.
- tvOS: A new operating system specifically designed for Apple TV. There are already over 11 million registered developers on Apple TV.
- Games specifically designed for Apple TV: You can play games directly on Apple TV using the new remote. Big game makers like Activision are creating games specifically designed for Apple TV. Some even allows for multiplaying.
- Apps specifically designed for Apple TV: Airbnb, Zillow, MLB and Gilt have all built new apps designed specifically for the bigger screen experience on the TV. With Gilt's app, you can play a preview of certain products and see what they look like. On the MLB app, you can pull up a ton of live data, such as player stas, highlights, and scores of other games, instantly.
