Apple is taking on Evernote and Microsoft OneNote with its updated Notes app

At Apple's developer's conference that kicked off this morning in San Francisco, Apple's Craig Federighi, showcased a new version of Apple's Notes app.

The new app is clearly trying to better compete with Evernote and match Microsoft OneNote.

For instance, Apple has added the ability to add a checklist.

It lets you do a drawing with your finger on the iPhone or iPad, so you make sketches in a note. That's playing catch-up to Microsoft, which includes digital pen that supports note taking with its Surface PC.

It also gives you access to the camera to add photos to your notes.

And it lets you easily embed attachments, maps links, website links and reformat your notes, very Evernote-ish.

Now that the iPad is finally getting multitasking, where you can see two windows at once, the new Notes app should be even more useful.
