As it turns out, some iPhone loyalists can't even notice the difference between iOS and Android.

Two pranksters from the Netherlands, Alexander Spoor and Sacha Harland, handed an iPhone running Android to several iPhone users and told them it was running iOS 9.

iOS 9 is Apple's next big iPhone update that hasn't been released yet and is set to launch this fall. The video was posted on their YouTube channel Dit Is Normaal.

The reactions were generally positive. People said the software, which they believed to be iOS 9, looked nicer and felt more practical than iOS 8. Although several people noticed that the software looked really different than what they were accustomed to on an iPhone, none of them noticed it was actually Android. Only one person shown in the video said it looks a lot like Android.

Spoor said it took "a lot of hacking" to get Android running smoothly on an iPhone.

"It took a lot of jailbreaking and tweaking to make the resemblance uncanny," Spoor said in an email to Business Insider.

The version of Android shown in the video doesn't look anything like iOS. The app icons are different, and you can see the Google search bar positioned at the top of the screen. The only iOS feature the pair kept on the phone was Safari, since they couldn't get the Google search widget to launch Chrome instead.

The two pranksters even asked respondents why they think iOS is better than Android, although those in the video couldn't tell the difference.

Spoor said the inspiration came from a previous video he made with Harland in which they served McDonald's to food experts.

"When that video went viral we noticed that the conversation about it had a lot to do with us as a society," Spoor said. "We decided to look into other topics that say something about our society and one of the topics we landed on was the hate-love relationship we have with Apple. It's insane how divided smartphone owners are about it."
