The App Store from Apple Inc has touched the golden mark of 2 million apps, as compared to the 1.5 million apps it had this time last year. The data was shared by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the annual developer event Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.

Cook also said that the downloads of these apps have gone from 100 billion downloads announced in the previous year's event to over 130 billion now.

In addition, the developers of these apps have been paid about $50 billion as revenue, a figure significantly up from $40 billion in January this year and $30 billion last year.

The eight-year old App Store has just got a revamp, showing a new revenue-sharing model for app developers and offering a 85-15 revenue split for apps that have subscriptions at least a year old. This split was earlier 70-30.

The app makers would also be allowed to place search-related ads on the App Store, so that customers can discover or re-engage with apps as per their convenience.
