Launches Smallest 3D TV In India, Allocates Rs 40 Crore For Marketing </b>

AOC India today launched the smallest 3D TV in the country. The television measures just 23 inch and is capable of displaying content in full HD. The company has priced this television aggressively at Rs 19,990.

Along with this television, AOC will be providing four pairs of 3D glasses at no extra cost. Users also get a 3-year warranty. Given the lack of 3D content, the company is also providing a free USB, which comes loaded with the movie Epic. Epic is an animated fantasy-adventure, comedy-drama film.

In addition, AOC’s 23 inch HD 3D LED TV comes with a direct 3D key on the remote, which can convert 2D content and one can watch 2D content with 3D effect. Needless to say, a lot of 3D televisions are now coming up with this functionality, but there will be a loss of quality when the conversion happens.

AOC started selling television sets in India in January 2012 and the company had managed to sell 100,000 units till date. It is now targeting to sell over 150,000 units and has also chalked out aggressive marketing and branding plans for India. AOC has allocated a budget of Rs 40 crore for this calendar year and plans to double it to Rs 80 crore next year.

Asked about the demand for 3D TVs in India, Saurabh Grover, director (sales) at AOC India, shared that 3D television sets currently occupy only 1% of the market. However, with the launch of this TV set, AOC is hoping to increase that. Grover added that consumers, who are in the market to upgrade from 21 inch CRTV, might upgrade to this offering.

Although it looks like a decent offering from AOC, the lack of 3D content in India may prove to be a deterrent for the company.
