Andrew Luck shocked the NFL world on Saturday by announcing his retirement from football just two weeks before the start of the 2019 season.

Luck, just weeks away from his 30th birthday, described an exhaustion with the sport while explaining his decision and his ongoing recovery from injuries that have nagged at his career.

Per ESPN's Field Yates:

An emotional Andrew Luck on his recovery: "I've been stuck in this process. I haven't been able to life the live I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game....the only way forward for me is to remove myself from football."

As Luck left the field after the conclusion of the Colts preseason game against the Bears on Saturday night, he was met with boos from the home crowd.

 

Luck previously missed the entire 2017 season with a shoulder injury and was dealing with a new ankle injury heading into the 2019 NFL season.

With Luck out, the Colts will likely turn to backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to lead the team into their 2019 campaign.
