And Now Jonah Lehrer's Second Book Is Being Pulled From Stores

Mar 2, 2013, 04:28 IST

YoutubeFabricated Bob Dylan quotes in his previous book, "Imagine" led to author Jonah Lehrer's resignation from the New Yorker, and to the publisher of that book, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, pulling it from store shelves.

Now, according to Michael Moynihan at The Daily Beast, the publisher has decided to pull Lehrer's second book, "How We Decide," from stores as well, and will offer refunds to customers. The decision comes "after an internal review uncovered significant problems with the book," Moynihan reports. The publisher didn't reveal the exact reasons for their decision to him.

However, after uncovering the fabricated Bob Dylan quotes in "Imagine," Moynihan looked into "How We Decide." He independently uncovered issues with passages purportedly from an interview with United Airlines Pilot Al Haynes that were nearly identical to a lecture he had delivered nearly two decades earlier.

Lehrer's first book, "Proust Was A Neuroscientist," did not have any problems in its review and will stay in print.

This news comes just 2 weeks after the Knight Foundation controversially paid Lehrer $20,000 to speak at one of their conferences, which they later said they regretted.
