Ahead of festival season, Amazon is tapping on India’s wholesale arm as well and has pumped in Rs 115 crore in the unit.

Amazon wholesale (India) was established in 2013 and is a B2B portal, which also acts as a distributor of exclusive products such as smartphones to merchants on its online marketplace Amazon India.

Amazon’s investment comes after Alibaba is also showing keen interest in India’s B2B arm.

Recently, Alibaba tied up with Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDFC Bank, Delhivery and DHL.

Presently, Amazon Wholesale India serves small and medium sized business (SMBs) in just Bengaluru and Mangaluru.

Apart from selling office products, stationery, personal care, food and beverages, it will soon start selling smartphones as Amazon India has been cutting down smartphone sales through Cloudtail due to Indian government’s new norms.

India's B2B ecommerce industry will grow to $700 billion by 2020, as per a Walmart report.
