Mobile internet software and services provider UCWeb of Alibaba Mobile Business group is planning to invest 2 Billion Rupees over the next two years in India and Indonesia. The global mobile business group is looking to use the funds for user-generated content in India through its big-data powered news distribution and content platform, UC News.
Alibaba aims to make the UC We-media Program the No. 1 platform for content consumption, creation and services in India and Indonesia. The company plans to add more than 30,000 self publishers, bloggers, and key opinion leaders to our platform in 2017, generating over 10,000 articles for UC News, every single day.
Jack Huang, President of Overseas Business, Alibaba Mobile Business Group said, “As India enters the age of increased content consumption through its mobile devices, there is a huge potential for the growth of user-generated content in India, similar to what has happened in China. There are more than 600 mn mobile users and 20 mn online content creators in China whereas India currently has 371 mn mobile users with miniscule contribution from self-publishing outlining a huge demand-supply gap."
The company is trying to close this gap by investing in content distribution platform in India. UC Browser is rated No.1 mobile browser in India (according to StatCounter) having integrated news feeds with UC News.
